Role Overview:
The Expense Controllership and Operations role at New York Life plays a vital part in ensuring accurate expense accounting and proficient data management within the finance domain. This role requires a passion for informational and operational data, platform infrastructure, simplifying operations, and technical depth.
What You’ll Do:
- Understand cost structure to enable showback process for the Bill of IT by creating visibility into both the underlying costs associated with each service and application, and the business unit consumption of each service.
- Manage allocations component of the Bill of IT for technology spend.
- Deliver a predictable and defensible monthly bill for IT services consumed by business units
- Define IT unit cost rate and billing methodologies
- Strategic enabler to improve the value of technology products and services, as well as improving expense ratios and operational excellence
- Enable data-driven decisions by providing transparency to Total Cost of Ownership and financial metrics.
- Maintains a strong understanding of business processes, supporting data and applications and strategic direction.
- Proactively communicates between business/enterprise processes and analytics team to improve delivery, value and integration of analytics into business/enterprise processes.
- Performs complex compilation, analysis, and reporting of Bill of IT data; delivers key insights and recommendations on data trends to inform leaders and drive decisions.
- Collaborate with Finance, IT Leadership, Technology, Stakeholders, and others to solve complex problems; uses sophisticated analytical thought to exercise judgement and identify innovative solutions. Partner in process improvements to eliminate redundancies, standardize procedures, and implement best practices.
- Propose solutions, engage stakeholders, and revise procedures to reflect changes.
What You’ll Bring:
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
- Desire to learn TBM (Technology Business Management) concepts as it applies to NYL.
- Passion for data while also effectively communicating complex material clearly and concisely.
- Advanced analytical and big data analysis skills.
- Understanding of IT infrastructure domains to include data center, network, compute, storage, and application development.
- Knowledge of IT financial management processes and best practices such as budgeting, cost allocations, capital & operating expense handling, program portfolio management, and application/infrastructure support.
- Ability to present financial information, business cases, and change recommendations.
- Effective communication skills to engage stakeholders and present findings.
- Ability to work efficiently and effectively with multiple levels of management and staff across the organization.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills - capable of motivating and managing organizations or teams to deliver desired results.
Pay Transparency
Salary Range: $110,000-$190,000
Overtime eligible: Exempt
Discretionary bonus eligible: Yes
Sales bonus eligible: No
Actual base salary will be determined based on several factors but not limited to individual’s experience, skills, qualifications, and job location. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. In addition to base salary, employees may also be eligible to participate in an incentive program.
