We are looking for hands-on Director of UI to join a growing digital and experience strategy marketing team. The Director will lead the UI design, visual direction, and delivery for a variety of digital properties (e.g., NYL.com, personalized Agent websites, marketing enablement platforms). As a leader within the digital team, you will closely collaborate with digital producers, researchers, UX strategists, media partners, external design agencies and other critical stakeholders to develop innovative experiences that deliver against business goals. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to provide thought leadership for complex problems while designing elegant and simplified experiences to help our users meet their goals.

 

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Design Strategy and Design
    • Work with external design agencies and research partners to understand user needs, articulate and visualize into key user-centric artifacts including site maps, user flows, journeys, and personas
    • Build design strategies that align business and user needs and goals, within technical constraints
    • Lead the hands-on translation of those goals and needs into wireframes, mock-ups, prototypes, layouts, and UI elements/componentry with increasing fidelity into pixel-perfect, responsive designs across desktop, mobile, and other viewports
    • Direct measured and problem-solving approaches to how we solve design experience challenges, including how we can improve design consistency, effectiveness, inclusion, and accessibility across digital properties
  • Design Operations
    • Operationalize design by establishing clear goals and process to enable consistent design deliveries within the organization including identifying opportunities for better efficiency and effectiveness in day-to-day delivery to see your designs implemented
    • Create high fidelity design delivery and requirements and documentation that clearly illustrate function, look / feel and overall experience for enablement/implementation, and technology partners
    • Lead and participate in design sprints as part of scaled agile processes with other designers, agency partners, development, and enablement partners
    • Develop and test design concepts within Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) and other platforms experiences
    • Create a digital design system and evangelize the system within the organization to drive consistency
    • Shape and lead user testing, usability testing, and experiments with internal and external partners to drive design effectiveness learnings and optimizations
  • Leadership
    • Maintain line of sight on and apply visual design best and next practices and actively share/educate with colleagues
    • Mentorship junior design team members and design agency partners
    • Lead presentations on high-level concepts and designs to internal teams and stakeholders
    • Evangelize user-centric design principles while serving as a subject matter authority to internal as well as external partners and stakeholders
    • Collaborate with peers in other departments to aid in overall design consistency, delivering on business goals, and meeting user needs

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Education
    • Bachelor’s degree in design, graphic design, human-computer interaction, fine arts or equivalent (Master’s degree in similar disciplines preferred)
  • Work Experiences
    • 7+ years in digital design (UI) in desktop and mobile
    • Minimum of 7 years of experience in UX or Product design
  • Technical Expertise
    • Requires in-depth knowledge and/or breadth of experience in UI design principles (research, creative design, visual design, content strategy, creative direction, understanding of coding principles, etc.) 
    • Requires experience designing web pages and design requirements for AEM (aligned to scaled agile processes and timelines)
    • Proven track record delivering large-scale UI experiences at a Fortune 500 company, preferably in financial services
    • Mastery using leading design, prototyping, and collaboration tools (Figma, ZeroHeight, Photoshop, Sketch, Zeplin, Invision, etc.)
    • Advanced skills with design for and evaluating accessibility standards such as WCAG and ADA
    • Experience working with and incorporating information architecture, content strategy, and behavioral sciences in the context of digital design
    • Experience working with design and production requirements in heavily regulated industries preferred
  • Leadership Expertise
    • Ability to anticipate market or business issues related to design and recommend improvements / enhancements
    • Problem solver with proven track record of developing creative solutions to address business challenges
    • Solves unique and complex problems; requires conceptual and innovative thinking to develop solutions
    • Self-starter with the ability to use data and consumer insights to make strategic decisions 
    • Experience with managing multiple projects in a fast-paced, very deadline-driven environment
    • Strong presentation and communication skills. Ability to communicate complex ideas with others (junior to executives) and persuade audience to align to a single strategic point of view
    • Proven leader with a team first mentality and the ability to build cross-functional relationships
