The Employee Benefits Specialist is responsible for case work relating to the identification, development, and closing of Employee Benefits and cross-sell cases within the Advanced Business Solutions unit. This remote position will support New York Life agents and our field-facing business partners (Business Development Consultants, Internal Sales Desk Consultants, and GO Management) to increase penetration and production across Employee Benefits and Employee’s Whole Life in the Small Business marketplace.  The Employee Benefits Specialist will be recognized as an Employee Benefits subject matter expert within the corporate enterprise. The ideal candidate will demonstrate an in-depth knowledge in the Employee Benefits  marketplace and possess a strong understanding of the New York Life Career Agency system. This role will be responsible for managing the national Employee Benefits sales pipeline while identifying trends and generating projections to share with upper management.

 

As the Employee Benefits Specialist, you will:

  • Interact daily with agents and our field partners (Business Development Consultants, Internal Sales Desk Consultants) to provide employee benefits education, monitor case status, negotiate rates with underwriters, and manage all other factors leading to the closing of an Employee Benefits case    
  • Serve as a liaison between the Business Solutions Department and our field partners (Business Development Consultants, Internal Sales Desk Consultants, Agents, and Field Management)
  • Provide one-on-one case consultation and Employee Benefits case design services for agents, GO Management, and Business Development Consultants.
  • Handle inbound sales calls for case design, product questions or other assistance during the sales process
  • Support agents in the completion of appropriate Employee Benefits group case paperwork  and underwriting requirements upon requests from our field-facing business partners
  • Facilitate the integration of agent access to New York Group Benefits Solutions products in the large employer market
  • Assist agents on client meetings to review Employee Benefits options with New York Life
  • Develop and implement a system to monitor Employee Benefits case development, identify sales trends, and generate national sales projections to share with Business Solutions leadership
  • Collaborate with other divisions in New York Life to promote Business Solutions initiatives for the sales and marketing  of New York Life employee benefits across all product lines to the Small Business marketplace.
  • Support the creation and facilitation of national webinars to our agent field force
  • Identify sales trends for presentation to upper management to assist in the formation of Business Solutions long-term strategy

 

Qualifications:

  • Possesses strong relationship management skills with ability to create and maintain effective business  relationships with business partners within the New York Life corporation
  • Possesses excellent written and verbal communication skills with high level of professionalism to interact with a wide variety of internal and external parties.
  • Demonstrates ability to communicate complex/difficult concepts; ability to influence, often at senior levels, to adopt a different point of view.
  • Ability to manage multiple, competing priorities based on financial impact and deadlines in a fast-paced and challenging environment
  • Ability to adapt function/business strategy plans and policies to address operational and service challenges
  • Demonstrates ability to conceptualize and provide innovative thinking to develop solutions to improve the agent and client experience
  • Demonstrates strong organizational skills and attention to detail in order to produce accurate results Possesses a strong work ethic and displays a sense of urgency for successful and timely processing of work
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team environment
  • Ability to anticipate internal and external business challenges and make recommendations for process, product, and service improvements to enhance the agent experience.

 

Experience

  • BA/BS degree required
  • 5+ years of related industry sales experience required
  • Extensive knowledge of New York Life processes, employee benefits products, product features, and   underwriting guidelines preferred.
  • Knowledge of NYL Career Agency System and the New York Life Worksite Distribution system preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and SalesForce
  • Advanced designations (i.e. CLU, ChFC and CFP) preferred
  • Life & Health license required
  • Series 6, 63, 26 preferred
