Position Summary:

New York Life is seeking a physician to join an expanding team dedicated to advancing initiatives in new business and underwriting innovation and modernization.  This individual should possess a broad and deep knowledge of clinical medicine, have experience in medical underwriting for life insurance, and an interest in project work. The successful candidate will work with data scientists, actuaries, and vendor partners and serve as a subject matter expert on medical underwriting. This is a fully remote position.
 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Provide clinical and medical underwriting expertise and sound judgement when evaluating options and making recommendations.
  • Collaborate effectively with partners and stakeholders in Underwriting, Field Services, Technology, Agency, and external vendors.
  • Strong communication (written and oral) skills, including drafting and presenting documents to senior management and other stakeholders.
  • Willingness to take prudent risks based on best information available.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with individuals at all levels of seniority and on cross functional teams, as well as work individually.

 

Requirements and Qualifications:

 

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience as a life insurance Medical Director (including medical underwriting experience).
  • Medical degree (MD/DO or equivalent).
  • Licensed to practice in a U.S. state.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who are board certified in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine; however, other candidates with broad clinical knowledge are invited to apply.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Exhibit a professional balance of motivation, curiosity, insight, and customer service.

 

 

Salary range: $170,000 - $212,500 

Overtime eligible: Exempt 

Discretionary bonus eligible: Yes 

Sales bonus eligible: No
