Position Summary

New York Life is seeking a highly qualified individual to own new business and underwriting innovation and modernization projects for its Life, Long-Term Care (LTC) and Individual Disability Income (IDI) operations.  This individual will work with colleagues at all levels across functional lines as well as New York Life’s technology and vendor partners. This position requires someone with extensive new business operations experience, strong decision-making ability, the capability to effectively work collaboratively with others, and an entrepreneurial drive to execute on both day-to-day priorities and longer-term goals.  This is a remote position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Product ownership of new business innovation strategic initiatives
  • Accountable for delivering results and achieving goals of strategic/innovation initiatives
  • New business SME for high-level design, business and functional requirements
  • Provide operational expertise and sound judgement when evaluating options and ultimate objectives
  • Collaborate effectively on delivering results with partners and stakeholders in Underwriting, Field Services, Technology, Agency, and external vendors
  • Coordinate with testing leads on test deployment of features and provide guidance on overall testing approach
  • Identify, evaluate, and analyze potential innovative solutions within the industry to improve underwriting and new business operational efficiency and the customer experience
  • Ensure significant risks to delivery and functionality are appropriately identified 
  • Ability to successfully navigate change management in a large and complex organization setting
  • Coordinate with PMs on action items and deliverables
  • Contribute to the building and maintenance of project roadmaps 

Experience/Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Minimum of ten years of new business operational experience  
  • Good understanding of product, riders, distribution channels, underwriting, and regulatory issues in relation to new business operations
  • Experience with automated underwriting rules engines not required but a plus
  • Strong communication (written and oral) skills, including drafting and presenting documents to senior management and other stakeholders
  • Strong business acumen and execution skills
  • Willingness to take prudent risks based on best information available
  • Experience developing, documenting, implementing project plans
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with individuals at all levels of seniority on cross functional teams, as well as work individually
  • Ability to meet targets and deadlines
