New York Life Insurance (NYL) is seeking a highly talented, driven Intergation Specialist to join our dynamic, high-performing team focused on modernizing the core of our insurance technology ecosystem.  The future-state vision includes a best-of-breed, cloud-based technology ecosystem incorporating core insurance platforms, sophisticated rules engines, predictive models, as well as machine learning and AI integrated with a consumer-facing digital experience layer.  The First Phase of our modernization is underway and targeted at eliminating points of friction in the Purchase Experience.  Fellow leaders in the Life Insurance industry are developing similar programs, while $2B a year is being invested in InsurTech startups to disrupt industry leaders, intensifying the urgency of rapid innovation for incumbents.

The Intergation Specialist in our Application Support & Maintenance (ASM) team will focus on our Digital Health Data (DHD) and Electronic Policy Delivery (ePolicy) software solutions.  DHD represents an important, innovative step in modernizing the way by which NYL obtains health data for underwriting life insurance applications.  It is powered by MuleSoft and Java services hosted on AWS that have been customized to meet the proprietary needs of our NYL underwriting process and methods.  ePolicy is a critical tool that enables fully digital and remote sales for our agents and applicants.  ePolicy is a solution comprised of a third-party SaaS solution and NYL developed APIs (MuleSoft and Java on AWS) which integrates the solution into our broader New Business & Underwriting system. 


The Intergation Specialist will support the technical stability and operation of the DHD and ePolicy solutions.  The role is responsible for maturing system health (response time, throughput, failure rates), managing preventative and reactive alerting tools and processes, and refinement of the system operations as new versions of the software are introduced.  The Operations Engineer will execute on these responsibilities through a mix of individual contribution and management of third-party providers.   


Functional Responsibilities: 

  • Manage external ASM staff responsible for technical stability and operations 

  • Develop system health maturity roadmap 

  • Develop action plans against roadmap, measure team progress, and report results to ASM lead 

  • Identify, implement, and refine preventative and reactive alerting tools and processes  

  • Establish feedback loops with internal and external App Dev teams to incorporate findings from system health and monitoring initiatives into future versions of the system components 

  • Communicate professionally and effectively to clients, management, and other departments 


Required Skills: 

  • 5+ years of experience in ASM and/or application development roles 

  • Strong ability to diagnose issues and determine root cause 

  • Strong written and oral communication skills 

  • Strong analytic problem-solving and critical-thinking skills 

  • Strong experience with Linux and Shell Scripting 

  • Strong experience with Web Service and API authentication and authorization (e.g. OAuth, Mutual Cert Auth, Basic Auth) 

  • Experience with Oracle, PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL Server 

  • Some experience with AWS 

  • Knowledge of Identity Standards (e.g. SAML, OAuth) 

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment 


Desired Qualifications: 

  • MuleSoft and Java development experience 

  • Knowledge of Web Service and API development 

  • Knowledge of supporting Web Service standards including XML, XSD, WSDL and RAML 

  • Knowledge of Life Insurance Standards like ACORD 

  • Knowledge of DevOps concepts that enable deployment of both Infrastructure and Application code 

  • High Tech, Life Insurance or Financial Services industry experience 

  • Experience with SAFE or other agile frameworks 

  • Travel Requirement: Less Than 10% Post Pandemic
