Working closely with senior management will play a key role in the development, coordination, and management of the Group Life and Disability Tax Compliance reporting process. Provides expert technical support in the day to day activities of the Tax Compliance Unit. Serves as Tax Compliance subject matter expert in the design and implementation of Claims, Sales and Financial Control’s operational and administrative processes and systems to facilitate/satisfy all Federal and State tax reporting requirements. Effectively communicate all relevant tax legislation and assess/recommend operational processing changes and business risks in response to changes in the Federal / State regulatory environments.

 

 

Major Duties:

 

 Work closely with senior management to ensure Group Insurance compliance with all relevant Federal and State tax reporting requirements with respect to Group Life and Disability claim payments.

· Work closely with senior management to development NYL Corp tax compliance policy and procedures. Develops and implements all tax compliance operational processes within the tax department and establishes and documents business policies and protocols to effectively manage tax compliance activities.

Provides expertise to all Field Claim Offices and other key business partners to ensure consistent understanding of current tax legislation and laws, assess business risks/implications and outline Cigna's compliance responsibilities to all business partners.

· Provide tax compliance support to business and technical partners in identifying, developing, testing, implementing changes to Group Insurance systems (i.e., SRO, IMAGE, Workbench, etc.) resulting from regulatory changes to the tax laws. Responsible for developing business requirements, acceptance testing criteria and training.

· Maintain a strong focus on customer service, working with key partners to address sensitive issues related to individual claimant tax reporting questions.

 

Qualifications:

 

· 5-8 years’ experience in Tax Reporting, Account /Finance or similar environment

· BA/BS Business degree preferred.

· Must have in-depth knowledge of Federal and State withholding, depositing, and reporting requirements

· Must have demonstrated knowledge of Federal Third Party Sick Pay administration requirements for insurance carriers and employers.

· Strong understanding of Group Disability and Life products, along with tax implication for the products, and a working understanding of claims processing to assess tax compliance implications.

· Strong communicator who possesses the ability to build relationships, negotiate through complex issues and effectively communicate Tax position to all relevant parties

· Project Management experience 3-5 years.
