New York Life’s primary distribution channel is the career Agency sales force of more than 12,000 agents, operating in virtually every major city in the United States.  Every agent is affiliated with one of our 117 General Offices. These offices are operated by Agency management teams responsible for agent and management recruiting, development, and sales.  Approximately half our agents operate their businesses out of our General Offices, while the other half maintains independent office locations. 

 

Our General Offices are divided up among four Zones. In addition to our Zone offices, an Agency Home Office team responsible for strategy, finance, administration, standards, training, marketing and communications supports our agents and field managers.  The Agency operation also comprises teams charged with growing our business in key market segments, including the middle-income market, the advanced (high-net-worth) market, select cultural markets, and the women’s markets. Agents sell individual life insurance, individual annuities, and long-term care insurance products, as well as mutual funds.

 

This position will cover the Pacific Zone & West Central Zone

 

Responsibilities

 

The Senior Associate for Sales Support and Proactive Agent Base (PAB) growth is responsible for the regional implementation of the African American Market agent support strategy in the areas of agent productivity, retention, proactive agent base growth, and adoption of critical leading indicators such as prospecting, sales, and development platforms.

 

  • Work with regional Zone Manager and General Office development teams to build agent productivity, retention, and sales growth support plans
  • Conduct assessment of African American Market Agents in target GO’s to identify target agents and develop tactics to increase key leading and performance indicators

 

Implement Sales, Marketing, and Agent Development Activities:

  • Work with the management and development team in the assigned territory to plan and implement African American Market agent orientations, skill builders, prospecting activities, training, and study groups or other development, productivity, and sales programs
  • Conduct African American Market sales campaigns such as canvassing activities, phone clinics, business blitz campaigns, sales seminars, and other local sponsorship opportunities
  • Conduct individual Agent meetings to review adoption of critical systems, production opportunities, sales ideas, activity, and accountability, develop individual plans and follow up. Assist with client appointments as needed

 

Relationship Building and Market Development in the African American Community:

  • Conduct assessment of market community in assigned territory and develop solid knowledge base of community demographics, trends, opportunities in order to develop and find business and network opportunity for target agents
  • Develop relationships with Agents and Management teams in the assigned GOs and with community leaders, Centers of Influence, and organizations to consistently introduce NYL to the community and vice versa

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred/and or equivalent business experience
  • Proficient in MS Word, Power Point, and Excel
  • Life and Health insurance licenses
  • Series 6, 63 registration preferred or must obtain within 9 months from start date
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of relevant experience
  • Life Insurance sales experience a must
  • Must have demonstrated success as an individual producer
  • Thorough knowledge of New York Life sales and development systems, core products, leading and performance indicators
  • Requires thorough knowledge and experience of Agency systems, sales process and production factors in a Life Insurance/Financial Services sales environment
  • Must be able to demonstrate strong prospecting, selling, and marketing skills
  • Proficiency in Life Products, Annuities, Investments, and New York Life's Financial Needs Analysis approach
  • NYL Foundational Business Strategy knowledge preferred
  • Experience in developing community relationships in the African American Market  and implementing sales programs as well as driving community participation at corporate events and seminars
  • Outstanding communication skills both verbal and written
  • Must be comfortable conducting seminars and presentations and individual agent sessions
