Role Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Senior UX Designer to join our team and lead the design of intuitive, engaging, and user-centered digital experiences for GBS digital platforms, including myNYLGBS.com and other related digital products. As a Senior UX Designer, you will play a key role in shaping the user experience, collaborating with cross-functional teams (including Product Managers, IT, and Business Stakeholders), and driving the development of digital products that address both user needs and business goals. This role requires strong experience in UX strategy, user-centered design, and a deep understanding of customer pain points.

You will be a critical contributor to our Agile scrum teams, providing design leadership and expertise while taking ownership of your design backlog. You will also be expected to present and communicate your designs effectively to executives, empowering decision-making and helping to secure funding for new features and initiatives.

What You'll Do:

  1. Design Execution & Prototyping
    • Create high-fidelity prototypes in Figma, ensuring user-centered designs that meet the needs of clients and end-users.
    • Take an agile approach to design, collaborating with the Product Owner (PO) and stakeholders to iterate and incorporate feedback rapidly throughout the development cycle.
  1. Agile Participation & Backlog Ownership
    • Actively participate in Agile ceremonies (e.g., retrospectives, grooming, standups), providing daily status updates and collaborating with the Scrum Master to ensure alignment on design work.
    • Own a backlog of design items, collaborating with the PO to prioritize and align design work with the overall product roadmap and business objectives.
  1. Collaboration & Feedback
    • Collaborate with IT, Product Managers, and developers to ensure designs are feasible and align with business and technical constraints.
    • Provide constructive feedback to product managers, business stakeholders, POs, and developers on design challenges, feasibility, and potential solutions.
  1. Design System & Consistency
    • Develop and maintain design systems, style guides, and UI components to ensure consistency across all products and digital platforms.
    • Ensure adherence to internal standards and UX best practices to maintain high-quality and accessible user interfaces.
  1. Research & User Testing
    • Plan, conduct, and synthesize user research, ensuring that user feedback is incorporated into the design process.
    • Leverage insights from user testing to inform design decisions, focusing on usability and accessibility standards, including WCAG compliance.
  1. Demo Suite Management
    • Maintain and expand the demo suite, using it as a tool to present designs and functionality to stakeholders, helping to communicate the product’s value proposition.
    • Leverage the demo suite to support funding requests, providing clear visuals and interactive demos that help executive leadership understand the impact and value of new features.
  1. Mentorship & Leadership
    • Mentor junior designers, sharing expertise and fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement in design practices.
    • Lead projects and drive UX maturity across the team, ensuring designs are aligned with business goals and user needs.

What You'll Bring:

  • Experience: Minimum of 5+ years in UX/UI design with a strong portfolio showcasing expertise in user-centered design processes.
  • Proficiency in Figma: Expertise in Figma for designing interfaces, creating interactive prototypes, and managing design systems.
  • Agile Methodology: Proven experience in participating in Agile teams and ceremonies, providing design leadership in an iterative environment.
  • Strong Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for collaborating with stakeholders at all levels, including product, business, and technical teams.
  • Research Skills: Proficient in user research, including planning, conducting, and synthesizing user insights to inform design decisions.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills, with the ability to translate complex user requirements into clear and actionable design solutions.
  • Technical Understanding: Basic understanding of HTML/CSS and familiarity with front-end development principles.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Design Tools: Familiarity with additional tools like Sketch, Adobe XD, InVision, or others.
  • Front-End Awareness: Understanding of how UX design translates into Angular or similar component-based frameworks, ensuring feasibility and smooth handoff to development.
  • Accessibility Standards: Knowledge of WCAG standards and best practices in designing accessible digital experiences.
  • Insurance Experience: Background in designing for the group insurance industry, particularly for digital platforms.
