Position Summary

New York Life is seeking a highly qualified individual to lead & support Strategic Initiatives team in the effort to implement and modernize new business & underwriting platform. This individual will work with stakeholders at all levels across functional lines as well as New York Life’s technology and vendor partners. This position requires someone with understanding of underwriting and new business operations experience, strong decision-making ability, the ability to effectively work collaboratively with others, and an entrepreneurial drive to execute on both day-to-day priorities and longer-term goals. An ideal candidate is comfortable driving change and decision making with less than complete information.  

Key Responsibilities

  • Support and lead critical workstreams (e.g. feature delivery, change management, reporting, etc), to enable overall program delivery of new business and underwriting platform.
  • Identify, evaluate, and analyze potential innovative solutions within the industry to improve underwriting and new business operational efficiency and the customer experience
  • Conduct analysis, create reporting on findings, and provide recommendations on potential courses of action
  • Collaborate effectively on delivering results with partners and stakeholders in Underwriting, Field Services, Technology, Agency, and external vendors
  • Accountable for delivering results and achieving goals of strategic/innovation initiatives
  • Provide operational expertise and sound judgement when evaluating options and ultimate objectives
  • Ensure significant risks to delivery and functionality are appropriately identified 
  • Ability to successfully navigate change management in a large and complex organizational setting
  • Coordinate with PMs on action items and deliverables
  • Contribute to the building and maintenance of project roadmaps
  • Prepares communications regarding project direction, decisions, issues, risks, and status for management
  • Ability to deliver results in highly collaborative and cross-functional environment with focus on execution
  • Lead and actively participate in RFP/RFI initiatives and work closely with business partners and legal to execute contracts


  • College degree; MBA (or comparable advanced degree) preferred
  • Minimum of eight years of strategy, operations, and/or program execution preferably in insurance or financial services company. Experience in underwriting or new business operations a plus.   
  • Experience with implementing large scale projects capable of managing multiple workstreams across various disciplines simultaneously
  • Strong communication (written and oral) skills, including drafting and presenting documents to senior management and other stakeholders
  • Experience developing, documenting, implementing project plans
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with individuals at all levels of seniority on cross functional teams, as well as work individually
  • Experience consulting in the Financial Service or Insurance Industry strongly preferred
  • Understanding of product, riders, distribution channels, underwriting, and regulatory issues in relation to new business operations
  • Knowledge of Agile tools such as JIRA is strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of Scaled Agile Frameworks (SAFe) is a plus



Salary range: $117,500-$177,500 

Overtime eligible: Exempt 

Discretionary bonus eligible: Yes 

Sales bonus eligible: No
