 Position Summary

The Underwriting Vendor Management Team directly supports the Retail Life, IDI and LTC Underwriting groups and is responsible for managing the third-party vendors with whom we engage to secure underwriting requirements. The team oversees vendor performance to ensure timely and accurate securing of vital information as well as an exceptional customer experience for our clients, agents and underwriters. They are also responsible for payment and monitoring of expenses associated with underwriting new retail life applications. 

The MG1 ensures that the Underwriting team is properly supported and that performance issues are escalated and resolved with a sense of urgency. This individual will be responsible for overseeing a team that monitors vendor performance through auditing practices and SLA monitoring via dashboards. This individual will assist to set the strategy and direction for key projects, vendor performance metrics and contract negotiations.  The ideal candidate is a leader with the ability to manage and influence relationships both internally and externally. This role is best suited for a results-driven individual with a comprehensive understanding of Underwriting operations and critical thinking skills. This MG1 will be responsible for working with our vendors to achieve the optimal customer experience. 

 

Main Duties

  • Execute deliverables of the Vendor Governance Program.  The Program establishes acceptable standards and assesses performance, financial solvency, and controls.
  • Execute quarterly performance meetings with all critical vendors.
  • Oversee a team responsible for QA results, complaints, customer feedback and vendor reports to identify issues that need to be addressed.
  • Oversee a team responsible for reporting dashboards in support of business needs and analyze performance stats.
  • Address critical vendor performance issues, develop and enforce corrective action plans.
  • Partner with Field Operations, Service Leaders & Underwriters to address vendor performance issues.
  • Partner with technology teams and vendors to remediate IT-related issues.
  • Lead and/or support management with strategic vendor-related projects and technology initiatives that impact our vendors.
  • Assist with budget and forecasting for all three lines of business.
  • Attend onsite vendor visits.
  • Develop a high-performing team through consistent mentoring and coaching.
  • Assist in Underwriting procurement projects, including RFI’s, RFP’s and contract negotiations, to achieve competitive pricing and KPI’s that directly impact Company goals.
  • Maintain a presence within the industry and collaborate with counterparts to share best practices.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 3-5 years prior relevant experience
  • 3+ years of insurance industry experience required
  • Must demonstrate strong communication, business writing, negotiation, influencing and change management skills
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook)
  • Experience with Tableau preferred
  • Vendor Management experience is preferred
