New York Life Real Estate Investors (“NYL REI”) is the real estate investment management division of NYL Investors, which is wholly-owned by New York Life. NYL REI manages a portfolio in excess of $52 Billion which includes real estate debt, real estate equities and real estate securities. The equity portfolio includes approximately 125 assets held in New York Life’s general account, separate accounts, an open-end core fund and two closed end value add funds. We are seeking an accounting professional responsible for investment accounting for a portfolio of properties.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in actual versus budget variance analysis
  • Assist in preparing and gathering information for internal audits, external audits, and tax returns as needed
  • Assist in the preparation of lender required reports for outstanding loans
  • Assist in the review of financial statements and related reports
  • Assist with review of funding request, wire forms, etc. as needed
  • Complete and/or participate in the completion of ad hoc reports and departmental projects as needed
  • Perform a variety of general office duties such as log tax returns, payments & related forms into the tax return tracking schedule
  • Record keeping, filing, and generating accounting reports to facilitate the monthly and quarterly closing procedures
  • Review and maintain general ledger and supporting workpapers for various entities – analyzing and adjusting as needed each month Reporting Structure:
  • Reports to Senior Associate (team leader) in San Francisco
  • Coordinates internally with Asset Management and Fund accounting team

 

Basic requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree in accounting
  • 2+ years of Accounting experience
  • Real estate accounting preferred (property level)

 

Additional Skills:

  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team with excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, meet reporting deadlines and be very flexible
  • Understanding of MS Office Suite; proficiency in Excel
  • Understanding of GAAP and Fair Value accounting
  • Experience with Yardi
