Role Overview:
New York Life Direct is the industry leader in direct-to-consumer life insurance, delivering streamlined coverage directly to individuals while bypassing traditional agent models. Insurance Operations for NYL Direct is based in Tampa, FL and includes the Direct Call Center, Claims Operations, Policy Administration, and Underwriting Operations. Our team of 300+ employees supports more than two million direct-to-consumer policy owners. Our mission is simple and powerful: “Do the right thing for all customers, every day.” Beginning in June and ending in August, this 10-week summer internship program provides hands-on exposure to the Strategy & Support organization within Insurance Operations. This team supports all production areas through training and procedures, quality assurance, reporting, fraud prevention, customer insights, project management, and strategic planning.This hybrid role includes in-office collaboration in our Tampa office (Tuesday–Thursday) and offers meaningful interaction with senior leaders, cross-functional partners, and fellow interns.
What You’ll Do:
As a NYL Direct Insurance Operations Intern, you will support operational excellence by contributing to project management, business analysis, and strategy initiatives that directly impact customer experience and operational performance. During the summer, you will:

Assist with project planning, tracking, and execution of ongoing operational initiatives

Conduct research and analyze workflows, process data, and performance metrics to identify improvement opportunities

Support strategic initiatives aligned with organizational goals, including digital transformation and customer service optimization

Contribute to strategy and planning efforts across Insurance Operations

Develop presentations, summaries, and stakeholder updates using PowerPoint and Generative AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Copilot)

Leverage emerging technologies, including Generative AI, to enhance efficiency in data analysis, process documentation, and strategic deliverables

Utilize analytical and reporting tools such as Excel (pivot tables, charts, data modeling) and visualization platforms (e.g., MicroStrategy, Tableau)

Participate in professional development workshops, networking events, and fireside chats with senior leaders

Collaborate with fellow interns and team members on case studies, special projects, and a final presentation

Required Skills:

Rising Junior or Senior pursuing an undergraduate degree in Business, Operations, Analytics, Management, or a related field at an accredited 4-year college or university

Demonstrated leadership or meaningful involvement in campus or community activities

Pay Transparency
Salary Range: $21/hr
Overtime eligible: Nonexempt
Discretionary bonus eligible: Yes
Sales bonus eligible: No
Actual base salary will be determined based on several factors but not limited to individual’s experience, skills, qualifications, and job location. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. In addition to base salary, employees may also be eligible to participate in an incentive program.
