Associate, Accounting
Location Designation: Hybrid - 3 days per week
Role Overview:
As an Accounting Associate, you will serve as a key business support function for NYL Direct Insurance Operations (IO), Product, Research, UW Strategy and Advanced Analytics (PRUAA), and Business, Employee and Workplace (BEW) contributing to the effective management and control of organizational expenses. Core responsibilities encompass accounts payable, budget status reporting, cost analysis, and month-end close expense activities. The role requires close collaboration with management staff to identify and address issues impacting financial results, analyze cost drivers and variances, and ensure informed decision-making. Additionally, this position acts as a liaison with corporate financial staff and corporate services to maintain compliance with established expense guidelines.
What You’ll Do:
• Ensure timely, accurate accounts payable services and resolve complex queries for NYL Direct and vendors
• Support budget development, analysis, and reforecasting
• Analyze data and recommend solutions to improve management efficiency
• Review policies and procedures to enhance expense processes
• Manage month-end close activities, including accruals and labor analysis
What You’ll Bring:
This role requires solid accounting knowledge for managing budgets, expenses, and accounts payable, along with intermediate skills to provide data analysis and reporting. A strong understanding of NYL Direct lines of business and cross-functional expense management is essential.
Key competencies include guiding departmental expenses, coordinating workload, meeting deadlines, and providing user training on various financial systems. Effective problem-solving is needed for account reconciliation, workflow anomalies, and accurate expense allocations. The position demands frequent decision-making on policy and expense matters, and clear, timely communication with colleagues across NYL Direct, NYL Corporate Division, and vendors.
Required Skills:
• Bachelor's degree from a 4-year college or university
• Minimum 2 – 4 Years
• Strong communication and financial skills
• Detail orientated with a sense of urgency
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Business Intelligence tools
Preferred Skills:
• Proficient in ReadSoft, SAP, SQL Development
Pay Transparency
Salary Range: $57,000-$81,500
Overtime eligible: Exempt
Discretionary bonus eligible: Yes
Sales bonus eligible: No
Actual base salary will be determined based on several factors but not limited to individual’s experience, skills, qualifications, and job location. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. In addition to base salary, employees may also be eligible to participate in an incentive program.
