The NYL Direct IT Strategy Lead role will focus on the development of strategic, multi-year technology roadmaps, planning initiatives to support the roadmaps and prioritization and delivery management to meet the business and technology objectives.

The role will be responsible for aligning the technology strategy, services, investment decisions and delivery structures and processes with the strategic direction of the NYL Direct business. The role helps IT understand the technologies and resources required to advance and improve the business strategy. The IT Strategy Lead works closely with technology and business leaders to align strategies, define supporting plans and promote collaboration.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Partners with Business and Technology leaders across the enterprise to understand business drivers and goals to drive delivery of capabilities into programs/projects/enhancements/process-only initiatives.
  • Assess the organization’s processes, resources and skillsets to evaluate the technology organization’s capabilities and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Leads continuous strategic decision-making processes and deliver strategic plans that drive business outcomes and are adaptable to changing business requirements and technologies.
  • Leads prioritization discussions with Business and Technology leaders to create and operationalize the roadmap.
  • Work with the technology leadership to translate business objectives to specific IT strategies, services and products – delivers business aligned roadmaps to meet the objectives and oversees the execution of the plan
  • Analyze existing and potential technology-enabled business capabilities to identify improvement opportunities. Develop roadmaps and lead the delivery of initiatives to current and future business needs.
  • Advise business leaders of the opportunities created through technology and works to incorporate them into business strategy
  • Lead the delivery of effective communication of IT strategy, services and the overall IT Initiative Portfolio.
  • Define objectives, frameworks, and metrics for the strategic planning process and establishes ownership and timelines for key planning steps
  • Organize and communicate estimates of resources, timelines, and risks for delivering proposed strategies and plans.
  • Controls, monitors and reports on a consolidated set of projects, programs and associated changes for delivery across the organization.
  • Manage a multi-functional team providing leadership and support to ensure strategy development, relationship management and portfolio management objectives are met.


  • Expert in technology strategy development, scenario development, and innovation.
  • Competent in business case development, business domain analysis, IT governance formulation, new technology evaluation, and IT risk management.
  • Working knowledge of risk/return analysis and IT standards and policies formulation.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and proven ability to work effectively with all organizational levels.
  • Should be challenging and possess ability to influence and manage stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication and executive-level presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of a broad range of technologies and services.
  • Excellent problem solving, analytical and time management skills.

  • (optional experience) Insurance and/or Direct Marketing industry, ACORD Life & Annuity Standard


  • 10+ years’ experience working in technology infrastructure, engineering and application design and development and/or financial organizations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, management information systems, or related discipline; master’s preferred.
