Develops, directs and provides the necessary leadership for the plan and execution for the Architecture and Design area based upon the optimum use of cost effective technology to meet business needs in support of short and long term strategies. Responsible for the overall architecture for New York Life Direct’s new and existing applications.  Provides end-to-end technology support and technical leadership across Information Systems Department and to customer departments.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Leads the evolution of the architects function/program.  (Strategize, architect, lead, govern and communicate.
  • Understands, advocates and supports the enterprise’s IT Strategies
  • Responsible for overall technical architecture. Provides end-to-end architecture support from pre-project initiation to post implementation, for large scale and/or complex major initiatives that are either driven by the business or involve major technology infrastructure investments.  Also handles smaller initiatives as required and ad hoc requests for architectural and technology direction.
  • Leads analysis of the current IT environment to detect critical deficiencies and recommends and delivers solutions for improvements. Develops recommendations and creates presentations for senior management.
  • Promotes the enterprise architecture process, outcomes and results to the organization, including the enterprise’s IT and business leaders.
  • Leads the development of an implementation plan for the EA based on business requirements and IT strategies.  Defines the principles to guilds solutions.
  • Research, planning and coordination of the implementation of new technology
  • Act as a resource to the Applications team to resolve technical issues
  • Ensure that the optimal governance structure and compliance activities are associated with the EA compliance, corporate IT vision, strategy, principles and standards.
  • Consult with Value Stream teams to fit projects to enterprise architecture, as well as to identify when it is necessary to modify the enterprise architecture to accommodate project needs and grow
  • Lead the development and execution of the communication and education plan for enterprise architecture.
  • Access and communicate the value of the enterprise architecture. “Sell” the architecture process, its outcomes and ongoing results.
  • Manages employees and conducts evaluations and provides coaching.
  • Works closely with SRG to ensure alignment of plans with what is being delivered.
  • Perform additional project work when assigned.
  • Ability to work closely with other technical team members and customers
  • Strong communications skills and the ability to self manage.
  • Directs teams and project groups to investigate technology solutions to address business needs and objectives.
  • Directs, motivates, develops and manage performance of direct reports
  • Work closely with corporate to monitor and leverage investments across New York Life.
  • Monitor and support of all New York Life Direct’s Operation Technology
  • Develops and implements complex technical infrastructure components.
  • Disaster Recovery long term planning
  • Capacity planning and performance tuning
  • Analyze hardware/software problems and develop resolutions
  • Assists in managing systems integrity and availability
  • Assists in ensuring that the users are adhering to operating and security procedures
  • Assists and mentors, as needed, imparting overall knowledge of systems being architected, and technologies used, as needed.  Provides insight for overall architecture strategies and specific initiatives in each of the A&D domain areas
  • Maintains overall knowledge of existing application/system Portfolio and knowledge of IT profile associated with various locations/businesses with the Company, via architectural reviews, assessments and Level 3 Support. Couples this knowledge with that of proposed applications/systems/infrastructure upgrade to identify opportunities for project aggregation, system retirements and rejection of potential or proposed initiatives, and assistance in project planning and estimating

 

Requirements:
 

  • Bachelor’s degree or related experience in computer science, computer engineering, systems analysis

or related filed of study.

  • Seven to 10 years of experience in at least two IT disciplines (such as technical architecture, application

development, middleware, information analysis, database management or operations) in a multi-tier

environment. 

  • Broad knowledge of hardware, software, including iSeries, Unix, Intel, web servers, middleware,

portal software, SOA.

  • Experience with layered architectures, re-usability concepts, abstractions layers and

application/infrastructure patterns.

  • Experience with basic information management practices.
  • Exposure to multiple, diverse technologies and processing environments.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, including teamwork, facilitation and negotiation.
  • Strong leadership skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
