The NYL Direct Risk Officer will be responsible for managing risks within NYL Direct. This officer will be an integral liaison with the NYL Direct BU leadership team and will be relied on to understand the key risks facing the organization, including financial, operational, and business risks. The NYL Direct Risk Officer will need to work collaboratively with the NYL Direct organization and other Risk Officers to deliver innovative solutions to complex risk issues.

 

Responsibilities

  • Engage with NYL Direct leadership team, bringing a risk perspective to core initiative discussions and decisions.
  • Work closely with BU Risk Officers and serve as a liaison between the business and the broader risk management organization.
  • Work with NYL Direct to assess risks and develop risk mitigation strategies related to core ongoing and strategic initiatives.
  • Act as a liaison between the business and broader enterprise-wide risk management programs that are being implemented, e.g., Model Risk Management.
  • Assist in the performance of risk assessments, driving the development of self-assessments for insurance, financial, operational, and business risks.
  • Work with other Risk Officers to update and maintain Risk Profile Summary documents and BU Risk Dashboards with a focus on identifying new risk exposures related to NYL Direct.
  • Evolve and report on NYL Direct key risk metrics on a regular basis.
  • Evaluate emerging risks and keep abreast of industry developments, current events and industry best practices that might impact the organization.
  • Collaborate with other second line of defense functions and senior business leaders to implement policies, procedures and controls designed to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and risk management standards.
  • Work on special projects as needed.
  • Help promote a strong risk culture of integrity, transparency, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

 

Reporting structure:

Reports directly to Head of Strategic Insurance Businesses Risk.

Position is located in NY Home Office or in the NYL Direct office in Tampa, Florida.

 

Qualifications

Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience preferred. NYL Direct organization experience is a plus.

 

  • Experience working in NYL Direct is a significant plus.
  • Experience focusing on managing client experience, customer risk, and brand/reputational risk is highly valued.
  • Superior communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to influence others.
  • Able to stay abreast of multiple issues, recognizing when it appropriate to perform a deeper analysis.
  • Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Able to work both independently and as part of a broader team.
  • Inquisitive by nature with a willingness to take on new challenges.
  • Ability to work under pressure, multitask, prioritize and be flexible.
