The Manager will supervise the print and mailing in support of our Direct Mail Acquisition programs. This manager will be the Production Manager for several programs and set daily priorities with staff Specialists coordinating all assigned programs. The Manager will be responsible for the overall quality, cost, delivery and timeliness of these programs. This position will partner with outside agencies, internal Creative,  Strategy and Procurement partners. The Manager will need to be a critical thinker who can solve print and mail manufacturing issues and negotiate with external suppliers. Ensure that Actual costs are in line with budget estimates. Provide constructive input into supplier scorecards.

Supervise the daily activities and training of staff and monitor all assigned channels and campaigns for successful completion of mailings on schedule and within budget. Provide print and direct mail specification guidance to Agency, Creative and Strategy teams. Coordinate set-up of creative tests with the adversing agencies, including lettershop instructions. Supervise inventory ordering. Manage actual expenses and variances to budget provided to department head. Participate in supplier pricing and selection. Review and approve invoices. Manage and resolve suppleir issues. Manage postage expenses and reconciliation. Communicate opprotunities or challenges to management. Develop Statements of Work. Coach and provide training to staff. Keep current on USPS regulations. Keep current on industry technology and trends.

 

Requirements:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Communications preferred.
  • 5+ years’ experience required.
  • Must be proficient in direct mail and print production. Experience in print buying, budgeting and expense management. Experience on the print supplier side desirable. Experience in managing staff desirable.
  • Must be experience with print manufacturing suppliers and techniques, print and lettershop specifications, data processing instructions, mailing formats, paper, USPS rates and services.
  • Must have broad knowledge of business processes. Must be able to identify business opportunities that align with NYL Direct's core competencies. Experience in negotiating on all levels with suppliers and have a strategy for work assignment with suppliers and staff.
  • Must have prior managerial experience in a fast-paced, continuously changing environment. Prioritize work within team. Ability to direct suppliers and support strategic projects.
  • Ability to manage conflicting priorities; manufacturing and supplier issues and provide alternative solutions due to cost and or timing issues.
  • Ability to prioritize daily conflicting schedules, with internal staff and outside suppliers. Ability to give direction to advertising agencies on formats that keep costs in budget but lend themselves to creative testing. Review and approve processes for print and mail production that impact NYL revenue.
  • Strong communication skills required to present forecast and explain budget analysis. Communicates to management print and mail issues and options to solve. Provide production team with learning on industry trend and supplier capabilities.
