QA Analyst / Test Engineer

Location Designation: Hybrid - 3 days per week

Role Overview:

NYL Direct is looking for a Quality Assurance (QA) Analyst/Test Engineer. The primary purpose of this role is to develop and execute automated and manual functional tests to ensure product quality. This will focus on the validation of back-end processes. In this role you will estimate, plan, and execute testing activities. You will also ensure that quality issues and defects are appropriately identified, documented, reported verified after resolution, and resolved in our defect tracking system. 
 

What You’ll Do:

•    Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand product features and requirements, ensuring clear and actionable user stories and acceptance criteria. 
•    Execute automated and manual test cases to validate the functionality, performance, and security of software applications against functional and non-functional requirements.
•    Participate in all phases of the agile development cycle, from sprint planning to retrospectives, advocating for quality at each step.
•    Identify, document, and track software defects, working with developers and Business Owners, to facilitate quick resolutions.
•    Work with automation team to enhance test automation frameworks in support of continuous processes. 
•    Provide input during backlog refinement and sprint planning, contributing to user story sizing and task estimation from a testing perspective. 
•    Participate in group peer reviews and inspections of testing strategies. 
•    Report on test results, offering insights and recommendations to improve product quality. 
•    Stay up to date with the latest testing tools, methodologies, and industry best practices. 
•    Maintain business knowledge in the life insurance field.  Understanding of the life cycle of a policy in the Policy Administration applications (e.g., Phoenix, LSP, Process Flow, etc.).  
•    Use SQL statements for data mining to pull test cases. 
•    Participate in Acceptance Test Driven Development (ATDD) sessions with App Dev team and business users; assist business users with UAT (User Acceptance Testing) testing.
•    Understanding the technology our application/systems are built with from a code analysis standpoint is a plus.
•    Participate in troubleshooting and triaging of issues with different teams to drive towards root cause identification and resolution.
•    Create / maintain documentation around processes and procedures of daily functions. 
•    Use PractiTest test case management tool for all testing.

 

What You'll Bring: 

•    Bachelor's degree preferred. 
•    Industry related QA certifications a plus. 
•    5+ years' related QA experience required, especially related to back-end testing.
•    Experience in developing and executing SQL queries required.
•    Experience working in areas of front-line business teams (e.g., S.S.C., M.A.P.S., Claims, Underwriting, etc.) or comparable experience for external candidates.
•    Understands key business drivers; uses knowledge of business and industry best practices to improve processes and procedures. 
•    Able to solve a broad range of problems, taking a new perspective using existing solutions.
•    Able to work independently, receiving minimal guidance. 
•    Able to explain complex information to diverse audiences; collaborates with others to build consensus. 
•    Self-motivated and adaptable individual able to evaluate, maintain and prioritize multiple objectives simultaneously in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
•    Must be a team player.
•    Excellent communication skills verbal and written.
•    Strong attention to detail.
•    Analytical mind and problem-solving aptitude.
•    Strong organizational skills.
•    Experience working in an Agile/Scrum development process a plus. 
•    Experience working with PractiTest a plus.

 

This position primarily involves a hybrid work schedule - working remotely: Monday & Friday / on site: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

Pay Transparency

Salary Range:  $59,400-$75,000 

Overtime eligible: Exempt 

Discretionary bonus eligible: Yes 

Sales bonus eligible: No 

 

Actual base salary will be determined based on several factors but not limited to individual’s experience, skills, qualifications, and job location. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. In addition to base salary, employees may also be eligible to participate in an incentive program.
