Manages Red Hat Enterprise Linux, VMware, and Windows Servers and supporting network infrastructure and services to ensure security, compliance, and availability. Directs technical projects, tasks, and initiatives to completion. Identifies and directs or sync improvements to systems, procedures and methods. Analyzes, evaluates and provides management reporting on system performance and capacity trends. Develop, coordinate, convey and implement recommendations to address problems and make improvements.

 

  • Monitor and support New York Life technology platforms, including Red Hat Enterprise Linux, VMware, Windows Server (hardware, operating systems), Directory Services/Group Policy, DNS.
  • Ensure system security and compliance to NYL Standards
  • Evaluate system performance to develop and implement recommendations to address issues
  • Ensure system integrity and availability
  • Analyze and resolve hardware and software problems
  • Act as a resource to Applications teams to resolve technical issues
  • General Systems Administration and Technical Support (maintenance and problem resolution)
  • Design, institute, and maintain well-documented Backup & Recovery procedures
  • 2nd and 3rd Level Technical Support for escalated issues and questions
  • Provide consultation and guidance to other technical teams based on areas of expertise
  • Capacity planning and performance tuning
  • Participate as SME in managed-Projects, and support Design and specification development
  • Software package Integration: review, installation, configuration and maintenance
  • Research, planning and coordination for implementation of new technologies
  • Disaster Recovery planning and documentation
  • Create and maintain up-to-date technical and procedural documentation
  • Assists in ensuring that the users are following operating and security procedures and requirements
  • Performs other assignments to comply with the Business strategies and initiatives.
  • Provide after-hours on-call support and overtime work as-needed

 

Qualifications:

 

  • 4+ years hands-on experience in Windows and Red Hat Linux Systems Administration in a mid-size or larger environment
  • 4-year degree
  • Proficient knowledge of Automation tools (Puppet, Ansible, etc.)
  • Proficient knowledge of medium-to-large Server installations
  • Hands-on experience planning and maintaining HP Proliant or similar hardware installations.
  • Monitor, configure, and tune Red Hat servers, VMware, and Windows software and utilities; significant hands-on OS installation, configuration, upgrade experience required with RHEL 6x and above
  • Strong Centrify (Active Directory) and Group Policy design and management experience
  • Strong knowledge of TCP/IP networking
  • Proficient at monitoring performance of software and hardware and recommending and implementing changes to maintain acceptable performance
  • Experience anticipating future performance requirements to ensure growth and scalability
  • Excellent debugging and troubleshooting skills and methodology
  • Superior communications skills and the ability to self-manage
