Job Description:

 

New York Life Insurance (NYL) is seeking a highly talented, driven team player eager to join an organization within a multi-year journey to transform an industry leading business through bleeding-edge Insurtech innovation. NYL has developed an aggressive innovation roadmap to transform the experience of buying insurance through extensive use of data, predictive models, AI, etc. The urgency for delivering innovation is intensifying: Life Insurance industry leaders are developing competing roadmaps, over $2B a year is invested in Insurtech startups to disrupt industry leaders, and the race for digital health data to dramatically simplify the buying experience is next.

 

The Technology Delivery Lead manages internal and external engineers, business analysts and developers that execute against NYL Direct’s roadmap in a collaborative cross-functional, matrixed model.  

 

This role requires a unique ability to dive deep to resolve complex technology, process, and operational challenges.  The ideal candidate has a minimum of 3 years of experience in Program Management and Delivery Management on complex, multi-cloud, multi-provider, new platform introductions.

Functional Responsibilities:

  • Manage internal and external development teams through all phases of the technology development lifecycle for the NYL Direct Implementation.
  • Manage the NYL Direct delivery plan, and recommend adjustments as needed to balance scope, schedule and cost
  • Assess and report technology delivery status to technology and business sponsors, highlighting accomplishments, risks and issues
  • Define and manage resource requirements and allocations within program cost plan, identify financial risks and recommend mitigation plans as needed
  • Collaborate with technology and business stakeholders to refine implementation plans for subsequent phases of the program
  • Work across multiple development and test teams to ensure numerous system integration points are understood, built with precision and delivered on schedule
  • Assist in refinement of business cases by providing relevant technology implications

 

Required Skills:

  • 7+ years of Program Management or Delivery Management experience is required
  • 3-5+ years of experience directing large scale, complex programs that span multiple IT & business functional domains
  • 3+ years managing software integration vendors
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to varying audiences, including non-technical business executives
  • Ability to enable self-organizing/managing teams to achieve their goals by implementing and supporting agile principles and practices, and eliminating impediments
  • Excellent analytical skills, independent thinking and ability to exercise prudent judgment; ability to identify problems, issues and risks, and implement solutions before they impact project and program timelines
  • Congenial history of building consensus among competing interests
  • Knowledge of modern Infrastructure and Application Development practices and tools
  • Knowledge of Cloud-Enabled/Optimized practices and implications for Application Development teams
  • Bachelor's degree (prefered but not required) in a technical field and/or equivalent work experience

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • MBA or Master’s degree in a related field preferred but not required
  • High Tech, Life Insurance or Financial Services industry experience
  • Experience with SAFE or other agile frameworks

 

TRAVEL REQUIREMENT: 10%

This role is a HYBRID based position (Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday onsite; and Monday & Friday work from home)
