Corporate Vice President, Chief Operating Officer - Northeast Zone

Role Overview:
New York Life’s primary distribution channel is the career Agency sales force of more than 12,000 agents, operating in virtually every major city in the United States. Every agent is affiliated with one of our 117 General Offices. These offices are operated by Agency management teams responsible for agent and management recruiting, development, and
sales. Approximately half our agents operate their businesses out of our General Offices, while the other half maintains independent office locations. Our General Offices are divided up among four Zones. In addition to our Zone offices, an Agency Home Office team is responsible for the strategy, finance, administration, standards, training, marketing and communications supporting our agents and field managers. The Agency operation also comprises teams charged with growing our business in key market segments, including the middle-income market, the advanced (high-net-worth) market, select cultural markets, and the women’s markets. Agents sell individual life insurance, individual annuities, and long-term care insurance products, as well as mutual funds.
What You'll Do:
- Directs the management of office operations for a region.
- Collaborates with staff and colleagues throughout the Company (e.g., Service Organization, Office of General Counsel, Office of Governmental Affairs, Finance, Human Resources) to ensure the coordination of office administrative processes and procedures.
- Reviews large volume of Agent/Partner contract exceptions, ensuring that approval is in compliance with Company and regulatory guidelines.
- Collaborates with Home Office Agency Standards, the Office of General Counsel, and the Contracting, Licensing and Registration Unit to ensure procedures are followed and the Company’s interests are protected.
- Collaborates with Regional Service Leaders to ensure efficient processing of agent contracts and licenses.
- Directs staff in the management of office facilities and operational needs, including space planning and modification, lease management, facilities services, supply requisition and systems issues. Ensures offices are managed in compliance with Company standards policies and procedures.
- Collaborates with staff to identify operating deficiencies and coordinates support to develop and implement resolutions.
- Daily interaction with various GO managers to provide guidance and consultation on Company rules, regulations and programs, and assists in resolving a variety of routine and complex issues.
- Directs, develops, and manages staff, including providing coaching and training, setting goals, evaluating performance, planning staff assignments and development, and making and approving people management decisions (e.g., recruitment, promotions, terminations, and salary changes.)
What You'll Bring:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Minimum of 10 years relevant experience.
- Expertise in office operations and experience in Agency.
- FINRA Series 7, 24, 63 registrations.
- Prior experience in a Zone Officer position.
- Moderate knowledge of the insurance industry as it relates to life office operations.
- Operational knowledge of internal Company processes; cross-functional knowledge is required in order to provide guidance or direct managers to the appropriate resources.
Pay Transparency
Salary Range: $160,000-$228,500
Overtime eligible: Exempt
Discretionary bonus eligible: Yes
Sales bonus eligible: No
Actual base salary will be determined based on several factors but not limited to individual’s experience, skills, qualifications, and job location. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. In addition to base salary, employees may also be eligible to participate in an incentive program.
