New York Life’s primary distribution channel is the career Agency sales force of more than 12,000 agents, operating in virtually every major city in the United States.  Every agent is affiliated with one of our 117 General Offices. These offices are operated by Agency management teams responsible for agent and management recruiting, development, and sales.  Approximately half our agents operate their businesses out of our General Offices, while the other half maintains independent office locations. 

 

Our General Offices are divided up among four Zones. In addition to our Zone offices, an Agency Home Office team responsible for strategy, finance, administration, standards, training, marketing and communications supports our agents and field managers.  The Agency operation also comprises teams charged with growing our business in key market segments, including the middle-income market, the advanced (high-net-worth) market, select cultural markets, and the women’s markets. Agents sell individual life insurance, individual annuities, and long-term care insurance products, as well as mutual funds.

 

Role Overview

  • Responsible for designing, developing and implementing strategic initiatives within the Agency Recruiting team
    • Drive the initial thinking of strategic initiatives, including framing and analyzing complex problems, assessing current state, designing target state solutions, developing realistic recommendations, and influencing senior management to move the business to action
    • Manage a small team of resources that support the planning and delivery of the work, including developing individuals who will grow within the organization
    • Solid intellectual and analytical capabilities, problem solving and communication skills, a robust strategy and change management toolkit, and a passion to effect change across the organization at the most senior levels

 

  • Business lead for Agency recruiting systems and tools
    • Identify enhancements to screening and selection systems and tools to help recruit stronger candidates and improve the recruiting process
    • Lead the development of a modern, interactive, and consistent experience for users across platforms
    • Lead implementation of enhancements to Agency recruiting systems and tools

 

  • Project leadership
    • Lead end-to-end delivery of solutions
    • Support implementation of key enterprise initiatives by forming collaborative partnerships with colleagues across businesses and functional areas
    • Drive management of enterprise governance and communication processes
    • Provide program management (e.g., project plans, status reporting, risks/issues escalation, mitigation plans)

 

  • Resource management
    • Manage and develop of more junior resources
    • Plan and manage project budget, including third-party vendors
    • Manage cross-functional stakeholders

 

Qualifications

  • BS or BA preferred / MBA or JD preferred
  • 10+ years of experience, 5+ years in top-tier management consulting firm
  • Experience in financial services preferred, insurance expertise a plus
  • Extensive business analysis background, preferably at a consulting firm with experience in the financial services industry
  • Strong communication skills including experience in developing C level presentations and communications
  • Collaborative work style and leadership presence with ability to effectively interact and earn trust of peers and senior management across the organization
  • Extensive program management experience, including proven ability to juggle multiple projects at the same time
  • Team management and development skills
