Corporate Vice President - Disability Claims Team Manager

This position involves a hybrid work schedule - working on site one day per week.
Role Overview:
The Team Manager is responsible for the management and professional development of the team members reporting to him/her. They are expected to ensure that production and quality standards are met for the team. They are responsible for identifying and maximizing any efficiencies and opportunities for process improvements. The Manager will provide input and guidance on claims handling through the handling of recommendation reviews as well as day to day claim discussions. They are expected to provide oversight regarding the timeliness and accuracy of decision-making on initial claims and active claims. They will ensure claim investigations are completed in a timely and accurate manner in accordance with regulatory guidelines and fair claims practices. They are expected to ensure vendors that provide claim management services are meeting New York Life expectations from a timeliness and quality standpoint. The Team Manager will also provide oversight of any Third-Party Administrators that manage claims on behalf of New York Life. This person will be expected to work effectively with individuals from the other departments of GMAD (underwriting, actuarial, accounting and account management).
The Manager must have an expert knowledge of disability policies and demonstrate the appropriate interpretation of policy provisions. They must be viewed as a sought-out resource on the team and in the division. They are expected to have excellent communication and relationship management skills.
They will be required to monitor production standards, service standards, and quality standards. They will have extensive interactions with clients and coworkers at various levels and executive management. They are recognized as an expert in the field of disability claims and are expected to have a breadth of knowledge of GMAD priorities. They may be called upon to represent GMAD in legal matters.
What You’ll Do:
- Monitor workloads and ensure case assignments are distributed across the team, taking into account specific requirements and expertise to maximize efficiency.
- Measure and provide feedback to team members on quality of claims handling, decision making and customer interaction.
- Conduct hiring, performance management and performance evaluations
- Hold 1x1 meetings and team meetings regularly to share information, best practices and develop teamwork
- Perform second eye review and sign-off of decisions as needed.
- Oversee DI Settlement Program.
- Maintain a strong working knowledge of our administrative systems.
- Ensure accurate guidelines, procedures, and group specific requirements are documented and held in a central shared team location.
- Ability to oversee and/or provide thorough training and develop new and existing team members.
- Ensure completion of appropriate number of Quality Reviews of disability claims and recorded calls.
- Support the development of new products and workflow and be involved in discussion meetings and testing of new innovations and technologies.
- Pursue efficiencies in claims handling while working to improve current workflows and procedures.
- Anticipate internal and external business challenges and/or regulatory issues and recommend process, product or service improvements.
- Play a key role in projects, processes and vendor management.
- Provide management and ad hoc reports as needed.
- Oversee annual MCAS reporting and SOX testing.
- Responsible for budgeting and appropriate expense management.
- Uphold the level of work ethic and standards expected of a Corporate Vice President in the department.
- Participate in on-going training.
- Attend select company and industry meetings as needed.
What you'll bring:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Minimum of 7 years of disability claims or related claim experience.
- Prior Management experience preferred.
- Knowledge of Disability, Office Overhead and Hospital Indemnity products.
- Superior oral and written communication (phone, e-mail, mail, memo), customer service, and interpersonal skills, excellent teamwork and work ethic.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.

Pay Transparency
Salary Range: $110,000-$190,000
Overtime eligible: Exempt
Discretionary bonus eligible: Yes
Sales bonus eligible: No
Actual base salary will be determined based on several factors but not limited to individual’s experience, skills, qualifications, and job location. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. In addition to base salary, employees may also be eligible to participate in an incentive program.
