New York Life’s primary distribution channel is the career Agency sales force of more than 12,000 agents, operating in virtually every major city in the United States. Every agent is affiliated with one of our 117 General Offices. These offices are operated by Agency management teams responsible for agent and management recruiting, development, and sales. Approximately half our agents operate their businesses out of our General Offices, while the other half maintains independent office locations.

 

Our General Offices are divided up among four Zones. In addition to our Zone offices, an Agency Home Office team responsible for strategy, finance, administration, standards, training, marketing and communications supports our agents and field managers. The Agency operation also comprises teams charged with growing our business in key market segments, including the middle-income market, the advanced (high-net-worth) market, select cultural markets, and the women’s markets. Agents sell individual life insurance, individual annuities, and long-term care insurance products, as well as mutual funds.

 

Role Overview

Agency Recruiting & Development is looking for a Senior Associate level program manager to help build out one of our Agency programs to improve sales force recruiting and retention. In this role, the Program Manager will work closely with multi-discipline stakeholders to support the planning and execution of the program initiative. The program manager will play a key role in fostering a productive team environment and coordinate program efforts. Responsibilities include:

 

  • Manage the details of complex programs to ensure that all action items are accomplished timely and accurately within NYL standards while looking for opportunities to continuously improve program management processes and test new approaches
  • Ensure program runs smoothly on schedule, proactively identifying risk/issues and appropriately escalating concerns and potential solutions to impacted parties
  • Manage requests from multiple, senior stakeholders, including experienced agents, field managers and Agency leadership
  • Own development and ongoing maintenance of project plans and other program management documents, meeting with stakeholders and program delivery resources to gather requirements, resource needs, and provide input on solution design
  • Participate actively in department process improvement initiatives, gather data, document and understand business process issues, bring cross-functional teams together to work collaboratively towards a sustainable solution
  • Establish and enforce program delivery governance processes, communications plans, and cadence, including collection of regular program status reports for management and key stakeholders
  • Develop and manage basic reporting and work with digital/technology teams to build reporting needs into real-time dashboard
  • Develop and utilize appropriate program management tools (e.g., MS Office tools & templates) and where applicable drive methodology definition and adoption of Agile delivery approaches
  • Oversee task execution and dependencies keeping the “big picture” in mind during meetings and discussions, particularly if there are scope and/or resource adjustments

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum of 5 years of program management experience for complex programs, impacting multiple stakeholder groups
  • Ability to improve current processes/systems, including user experience, workflow, task automation
  • Analytical skills and ability to develop basic reporting
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in MS office suite
  • Ability to communicate and build effective relationships with field leaders and internal business areas

Salary range: $90,000-$135,000 

Overtime eligible: Exempt
