Senior Associate, Field Advisory Groups Team Lead

Location Designation: Hybrid - 3 days per week

New York Life’s primary distribution channel is the career Agency sales force of more than 12,000 agents and advisors, operating in virtually every major city in the United States.  Every agent/advisor is affiliated with one of our General Offices. These offices are operated by Agency management teams responsible for agent and management recruiting, development, and sales.  Approximately half our agents/advisors operate their businesses out of our General Offices, while the other half maintains independent office locations. 

 

Our General Offices are divided up among four Zones. In addition to our Zone offices, an Agency Home Office team responsible for strategy, finance, administration, standards, training, marketing, and communications supports our agents and field managers. The Agency operation also comprises teams charged with growing our business in key market segments, including the middle-income market and the advanced (high-net-worth) market. 

 

Role Overview:

The primary function of this role is to manage all aspects of the Agents Advisory Council (AAC) with complete autonomy and to provide extensive support for the Advisory Board of Directors (ABD).  This role will require extensive collaboration across the Foundational Business, Executive Management and field leaders engaging in strategic dialogue, practicing critical thinking and making independent decisions on a daily basis that have a meaningful impact. 

 

What You'll Do:

  • Manage the day-to-day activities, logistics, suggestion management, meetings (virtual and in person) and Council activities of the Field Advisory Groups, particularly the Agents Advisory Council (AAC) and Advisory Board of Directors ( ABD)
  • Oversees the AAC suggestion process, which includes the management of over 1,000 suggestions submitted by agents each year. This involves tracking each suggestion through a newly implemented and streamlined database, determining the appropriate business area for review, and ensuring the accuracy and detail of responses before discussing them with the relevant Agent committee for final approval. Utilize the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) for deploying new initiatives and continuous release trains.
  • Aggregates and analyzes suggestion data. Socializes findings to both Executive Management and the field through various channels to keep vested parties and stakeholders aware of key outcomes of the Advisory Groups.
  • Identifies process improvements to ensure adoption and agility of the database. Solutions with Technology partners to buildout additional enhancements to functionality.
  • Independently facilitates monthly virtual sessions with senior leaders and our field force.
  • Plans and partners with various teams to execute the AAC and ABD meetings and initiatives. Assists in the facilitation of the MPAC and DMAC meetings as needed.
  • Conceptualizes and develops the strategic agendas for AAC and ABD in person meetings (3) and plays a key role in the decision-making process regarding the topics that will be discussed during the sessions.
  • Creates resource documents to be shared with Executive Management, ensuring strategic and productive discussions. This involves leveraging relationships with Home Office business partners to determine which information should be highlighted in advance of Advisory Group meetings.
  • Manages AAC elections, which can include onsite support at Council, creating collateral and election material, development/coding of voting platform (if virtual), oversight of the election process, recruitment outreach and ensures candidates met qualification requirements.
  • Trains and onboards new AAC and ABD members to get them acclimated to their new roles and responsibilities.  
  • Manages the content of our AAC and ABD microsites on the field intranet. This includes but is not limited to determining content accuracy and updating the system to ensure the integrity of the sites.
  • Responsible for all aspects of the approximate $500K budget (allocation, seasonalization, strategic forecasting, and maintenance) to ensure monies are properly allocated for the year and are properly forecasted for future years, taking into account cost saving measures as needed.
  • Develops best practices for budget development and supports a zero-based budget approach. Tracks actual expenses to plan spend to provide timely variance explanations to senior management.
  • Monitors all departmental invoices to ensure actual expenses align with budget dollars and handle any discrepancies accordingly (interfacing across departments).
  • Collaborates and partners with NYL co-sourcing partner, business contacts, as well as external and internal auditors to ensure the accurate reporting of the Advisory Group teams financials and resolve a myriad of discrepancies as they arise.
  • Provides as needed support for the other Advisory Groups (Managing Partners Advisory Council (MPAC) and the Development Managers Advisory Council (DMAC)).
  • Identifies suitable meeting dates for in person Advisory Group Meetings in collaboration with Corporate Events and Agency Meetings.
  • Serves as Advisory Groups Communications liaison with Agency Communications to ensure proper, concise and timely communication efforts that align with overall messaging.
  • This position will require local and non-local travel up to 6 times a year.

 

What You'll Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Minimum 5-10 years of experience in financial services and/or insurance industry preferred
  • Familiarity with Zoom, Acrobat Pro, SharePoint Online, Office 365 and the ability to embrace new technology
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Collaborative work style and executive presence with ability to effectively interact and earn trust of peers and senior leadership
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to work and make decisions autonomously
  • Self-starter with a passion to deliver results
  • Experience planning and executing small scale meetings a plus

 

 

Pay Transparency

Salary Range:  $77,500-$110,000 

Overtime eligible: Exempt 

Discretionary bonus eligible: Yes 

Sales bonus eligible: No 

 

Actual base salary will be determined based on several factors but not limited to individual’s experience, skills, qualifications, and job location. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. In addition to base salary, employees may also be eligible to participate in an incentive program.

 

Please note: This role requires FINRA licensed and/or FINRA Associated Person pre-hire fingerprinting.
