CVP - Investment Product Manager
Location Designation: Hybrid - 3 days per week
Role Overview:
New York Life seeks a strategic leader to serve as Corporate Vice President – Investment Product Manager within the Institutional Life Department. This role is accountable for the performance and results of the investment product team, adapting business strategy and policies to address service and operational challenges. The position manages a product manager associate and collaborates extensively across functions to ensure the competitiveness, compliance, and operational excellence of the Corporate-Owned Life Insurance (COLI) and Bank-Owned Life Insurance (BOLI) investment platforms.
What You’ll Do:
Strategic Leadership & Management
- Manage and mentor the product manager associate, fostering a culture of high performance, accountability, and continuous learning, while contributing to broader talent development, succession planning, and capability building within the Institutional Life organization.
- Provide guidance to employees, colleagues, and external partners, including senior leaders, influencing decisions, and driving results.
- Serve as a thought leader on investment market trends and product innovation, proactively identifying opportunities to enhance the investment platform.
Product & Platform Oversight
- Own the strategy, governance, and lifecycle management of the variable product investment fund lineup, encompassing 150+ registered funds across 27 fund managers and a private/exempt investment platform of internal and external hedge fund managers, with accountability for performance, risk alignment, and platform competitiveness.
- Evaluate, recommend, and champion new fund additions, investment strategies, and new or emerging asset classes based on client needs, market trends, competitive positioning, and platform objectives, balancing strategic leadership with hands-on oversight of critical initiatives to ensure disciplined execution in a highly regulated environment.
- Lead the onboarding of new funds and oversee enhancements to the investment platform, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and governance standards.
- Coordinate closely with the operations team on fund additions, removals, replacements, and structural changes, ensuring accurate execution, system readiness, and seamless implementation.
- Demonstrate agility in managing multiple concurrent product initiatives, continuously prioritizing and re-prioritizing work to focus on the highest-impact efforts.
- Participate actively in product development team initiatives, contributing investment product expertise from concept through implementation.
Governance, Compliance & Due Diligence
- Oversee annual and ad-hoc prospectus updates, regulatory disclosures, and due diligence processes in partnership with internal Legal and Compliance teams and external fund managers.
- Ensure timely, accurate, and compliant updates to prospectuses and Private Placement Memoranda, applying a high degree of attention to detail.
- Oversee registered fund reporting and quarterly exempt fund reviews, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and adherence to internal governance standards.
Portfolio & Investment Manager Relationships
- Provide strategic oversight and monitoring of investment activity and performance across internally managed portfolios.
- Build and maintain deep, trusted relationships with internal and external fund managers, serving as a strategic partner on product design, performance expectations, and platform evolution.
- Identify gaps and opportunities within the fund lineup and collaborate with investment managers to develop or source new solutions.
- Gather and synthesize competitive intelligence on market trends, peer platforms, and investment funds to inform product strategy and fund recommendations.
What You’ll Bring:
Required
- Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent experience.
- Series 6 or Series 7 license (or ability to obtain within six months).
- Significant experience in investment product management, fund governance, and cross-functional leadership.
- Advanced understanding of investment product practices and procedures; working knowledge of Legal, Compliance, Operations, and Technology disciplines.
- Proven ability to manage multiple complex initiatives simultaneously while maintaining strong attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, analytical, relationship-management, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred
- MBA and/or CFA designation.
- Experience with BOLI and/or institutional investment portfolios.
- Familiarity with Managed Separate Accounts and Insurance Dedicated Funds.
- Prior experience with derivative strategies, alternative investments, or fixed-income portfolios.

Pay Transparency
Salary Range: $135,000 - $170,000
Overtime eligible: Exempt
Discretionary bonus eligible: Yes
Sales bonus eligible: No
Actual base salary will be determined based on several factors but not limited to individual’s experience, skills, qualifications, and job location. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. In addition to base salary, employees may also be eligible to participate in an incentive program.
