Corporate Vice President, Business Planning and Strategy
Location Designation: Hybrid - 3 days per week
Role Overview:
The Corporate Vice President, Business Planning and Strategy reports to the Chief of Staff (COS) to the Head of Strategic Businesses. This role supports the Head of Strategic Businesses and is a key contributor to strategy, planning, and execution across New York Life’s Strategic Business (SB) portfolio.
The role is a blend of delegated execution and independent ownership, with scope and responsibility expected to evolve over time. The CVP acts as a trusted thought partner to the COS and senior leaders, helping to translate enterprise and portfolio strategy into clear priorities, coordinated action, and high-quality deliverables for executive leadership, the Executive Management Committee (EMC), and the Board.
This position offers broad enterprise exposure and the opportunity to work on complex, high-impact initiatives that support growth, diversification, and operational excellence across the SB portfolio.
What You’ll Do:
Chief of Staff Office Support (Approx. 60–70%)
• Serve as a senior extension of the Chief of Staff to the Head of Strategic Businesses, supporting day-to-day execution of SB Office priorities.
• Act as a thought partner in shaping strategic agendas, executive messaging, and decision materials for the Head of SBs.
• Develop and deliver high-quality presentations, briefing materials, and written communications for EMC, Board, and other senior leadership forums.
• Coordinate inputs across SB leaders and enterprise partners to ensure alignment, accuracy, and consistency of content.
• Help plan, coordinate, and in some cases lead key SB meetings and events, including strategy reviews, leadership meetings, and offsites.
• Support governance and follow-through on priority topics, ensuring decisions translate into clear actions and outcomes.
Strategy, Planning & Cross-SB Initiatives (Approx. 30–40%)
• Support portfolio-level strategy development and planning for the Strategic Businesses, in close partnership with the COS and Head of SBs.
• Lead or co-lead cross-SB initiatives, such as identifying and advancing synergies, improving coordination across businesses, and supporting integrated planning efforts.
• Conduct strategic analysis and synthesize insights across SBs to inform leadership decision-making.
• Partner with Corporate Finance to support financial oversight related to strategic initiatives, including cost-benefit analyses, expense management, and inputs to quarterly and annual business reviews.
• Collaborate with Corporate Development & Strategy, Communications, HR, Finance, and other enterprise teams to drive alignment and execution.
What You’ll Bring:
• Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
• 5+ years of experience in corporate strategy, management consulting, or investment banking
• Experience in financial services or insurance, preferred
• Experience operating in a Chief of Staff, strategy, or executive support role within a complex, matrixed organization.
• Strong strategic and analytical capabilities, with the ability to translate complexity into clear, actionable insights.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing executive-level materials.
• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, exercise sound judgment, and operate with discretion.
• Highly collaborative, proactive, and comfortable influencing across senior stakeholders without direct authority.
Pay Transparency
Salary Range: $160,000-$228,500
Overtime eligible: Exempt
Discretionary bonus eligible: Yes
Sales bonus eligible: No
Actual base salary will be determined based on several factors but not limited to individual’s experience, skills, qualifications, and job location. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. In addition to base salary, employees may also be eligible to participate in an incentive program.
