Senior Underwriting Product Owner

New York Life is seeking a highly qualified individual to be an Underwriting Product Owner for ALIP – New York Life’s new user interface platform. This individual will work with colleagues at all levels across functional lines as well as New York Life’s technology and vendor partners. This position requires someone with strong decision-making ability, the willingness and capability to effectively work collaboratively with others, and an entrepreneurial drive to execute on both day-to-day priorities and longer-term goals.  Underwriting experience is preferred.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Product ownership of ALIP for executing implementation, expansion, and platform enhancements

  • Accountable for requirements and design on all features provided to vendor, grooming backlog of change requests/enhancements and prioritization.

  • Point of contact for our internal business partners for their needs, requests of enhancements and general program inquiries.

  • Partner with the Production Support team to assess Incidents.

  • Communicate to our business partners on platform enhancements, release updates, training needs, procedural updates and critical reminders.

  • Collaborate effectively on delivering results with partners and stakeholders in Underwriting, Quality Control, Vendor Mangement, Technology and external vendors.

  • Coordinate with testing leads on test deployment of features and provide guidance on overall testing approach.

  • Ensure significant risks to delivery and functionality are appropriately identified. 

  • Ability to successfully navigate change management in a large and complex organization setting.

  • Coordinate with PMs on action items and deliverables

  • Contribute to the building and maintenance of project roadmaps.

 

Experience/Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; underwriting designations FLMI, RHU, FALU not required, but helpful

  • 5-10 years experience; Minimum of 5-7 years life new business and/or underwriting experience

  • Experience with automated underwriting rules engines not required but a plus

  • Strong communication (written and oral) skills, including drafting and presenting documents to senior management and other stakeholders

  • Strong business acumen and execution skills

  • Knowledge of program tools such as JIRA, PractiTest, DynaTrace preferred

  • Willingness to take prudent risks based on best information available

  • Experience developing, documenting and implementing project plans

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with individuals at all levels of seniority on cross functional teams, as well as work individually

  • Ability to meet targets and deadlines

 

Pay Transparency

Salary Range:  $107,500-$182,500 

Overtime eligible: Exempt 

Discretionary bonus eligible: Yes 

Sales bonus eligible: No 

 

Actual base salary will be determined based on several factors but not limited to individual’s experience, skills, qualifications, and job location. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. In addition to base salary, employees may also be eligible to participate in an incentive program.
